CAA SCHOOL PREREQS · SOURCE REVIEW NOVEMBER 2, 2026

Can you take CAA prerequisites online

Check the linked school and CASAA instructions for your application cycle. Requirements can change.

Online prerequisites can make an application plan more practical, especially if you work full time or live far from a campus. Acceptance depends on the program and the specific course. Before enrolling, verify the institution, course content, lab format, grade and timing against your target schools.

The useful question is not simply “Do AA schools accept online classes?” It is “Will these schools accept this course, taken through this institution, in this format, for this cycle?”

Treat lecture and lab as separate questions

A school may address online coursework broadly while providing additional conditions for laboratories. Record whether the lab is in person, virtual, a home kit or embedded in a lecture. Note how it appears on the transcript.

Do not assume a course labeled “with lab” settles every school's requirement. Gather a syllabus with the laboratory activities, contact hours and assessment method so the admissions office can evaluate the actual course.

Verify the institution that awards the credit

Identify who teaches the course and who issues the official transcript. A marketing platform, course provider and credit-granting institution may not be the same entity.

Emory's published prerequisites accept specified online coursework and virtual labs from qualifying institutions, while explicitly excluding some generic learning platforms. Indiana states that online courses are evaluated case by case. These are school-specific policies, not interchangeable approvals. Emory prerequisites, Indiana requirements.

Make a course approval packet

Before spending money, assemble a compact packet:

A complete packet makes it easier to receive a useful answer. Sending only a course-shopping link can leave the admissions office with the same unanswered questions you have.

Ask a precise question

You can adapt this original email template:

I am preparing for your [entry term] AA application cycle. I am considering [course code and title] at [institution] to satisfy [requirement]. It carries [credits] and includes [lab format]. I have attached the syllabus and catalog description. Could you confirm whether this course would satisfy that requirement, or identify additional information needed for review?

If you are applying to several programs, send each its own question. An approval from one school does not resolve the others.

Compare the full practical cost

The cheapest course may still be costly if another school will not accept it or if the final grade arrives too late. Compare tuition, lab fees, materials, work schedule, refund deadlines and transcript timing.

Create a decision row for each option. Include “approval received,” “approval pending” and “no published answer” rather than hiding uncertainty inside a yes/no field.

Save the answer with the course

Retain the program's response and its date. Record any conditions, such as a required letter grade or a separate lab. Recheck if you change the course, provider, format or application cycle.

Once enrolled, preserve the final syllabus and course description alongside your transcript information. That evidence may be useful even if the provider later changes its website.

Your next step is to compare one proposed course against every school on your shortlist. Use the prerequisite tracker and course-expiration review to finish the decision.

Put this into your plan.

Keep your next steps with the schools and applications they belong to.
